The MCD12000 replaces the MCD600 as McIntosh's latest flagship player. Not only has the model number doubled, but its features have also multiplied. In addition to solid-state amplification, the MCD12000 also provides tube output, allowing users to enjoy two distinct sound signatures and doubling the listening pleasure. The solid-state amplification utilizes discrete components to form a balanced circuit, while the tube amplification employs 12AT7 and 12AX7 vacuum tubes, with one set per channel, also configured as a balanced output.

The MCD12000 is equipped with a powerful reference-grade DAC, featuring two 8-channel ESS Sabre Pro ES9038PRO 32-bit DAC chips. Not only are the left and right channels separated, but each DAC also utilizes ESS's patented HyperStream II architecture and a time jitter eliminator to meet the most demanding digital playback requirements. For power supply, the MCD12000 incorporates a specially designed R-Core power transformer to minimize vibration and noise interference. The digital and analog circuits are independently powered to further prevent cross-contamination of noise.

In terms of input interfaces, the USB input supports up to 32-bit/384kHz, DSD512, and DXD384kHz, while coaxial and optical inputs support up to 24-bit/192kHz. Additionally, the MCD12000's DAC has been Roon Tested, ensuring optimal performance when used with a Roon Core or Roon Ready player without requiring additional configuration.
