The Von Schweikert Audio (VSA) VR-4SR Mk I, introduced between 2004 and 2005, was Albert Von Schweikert's flagship floorstanding loudspeaker that succeeded the classic VR-4 Gen III SE.
Design & Sonic Characteristics
- Dual-Cabinet Decoupled Suspension: The mid/high-frequency section (head module) and the bass section (bottom cabinet) are entirely separate, stacked via conical spikes. This design prevents high-amplitude low-frequency resonance from transmitting to the mid/high frequencies, ensuring pinpoint soundstage accuracy.
- Rear Ambient Spatial Adjustment: The rear-firing Ambience tweeter can be adjusted according to the room's absorption characteristics. When properly tuned, it creates an enveloping and expansive 3D soundstage that extends beyond the loudspeaker boundaries.
- Excellent Amplifier Compatibility: Although the low-end impedance dips to 4 ohms, the 92dB high sensitivity allows it to be easily driven by moderate-power tube amplifiers or high-current solid-state amplifiers, delivering elastic, deep, and solid bass extension down to 20Hz.
